Our Story

The name “Mmabana” translates to “Mother of the Arts” in Setswana. This name symbolises nurturing creativity and talent, fostering growth, and creating a home for the artistic spirit to thrive. It embodies the Entity's purpose of providing an inclusive space for individuals to discover, grow, and excel in the arts, culture, and sport activities.

 

Mmabana Arts, Culture, and Sport Foundation (MACSF) was established to cultivate creativity, promote artistic excellence, and advance athletic potential in the North West Province of South Africa. With a legacy spanning decades, the Entity is a pivotal institution driving transformation and innovation within the sport, arts, and culture sectors.

 

The Entity is a Schedule 3C Public Entity, recognised in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) No.1 of 1999 (as amended It is the Entity of the Provincial Department of Arts, Culture, Sport, and Recreation. Supported by government institutions and independent funding bodies.

 

In terms of the Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sport Foundation Act 07 of 2000, as amended, the Entity is charged with the responsibility of developing the artistic and sporting talents of the people of the North West Province. The Entity’s presence in communities contributes to the development, fostering and promotion of culture through improvement of individuals and groups of people interested in the arts, cultural and sporting activities.

MACSF Mandate


MACSF is dedicated to:
1. Identify talent by unearthing raw talent across various disciplines.

2. Develop individuals through tailored programmes in arts, culture and sport.

3.Teach and mentor artists & participants to equip them with technical skills, confidence,

To lead in the development, industrialisation, performance and teaching of arts, culture and artistic sport to the people of the North West Province and South Africa. 

Our Mission

The Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sport Foundation commits itself to the development, fostering, enhancement and promotion of the total spectrum of the Arts, Artistic Sport and supporting skills, expertise, technology and excellence in the North West Province and South Africa by:

  • To be a professional Arts, Culture and Sport organization standing on these pillars: art Education, development, and training, performing and creating as well as identifying talent.

  • To encourage all stakeholders, including all authorities and communities in the maintenance and further development of an arts and artistic sport infrastructure and where possible utilizing existing venues in all other regions of the Province.

  • To develop itself as an art, culture and artistic sport body, in line with the Provincial, National and Cultural Policy.

  • To be resource-sharing organisation committed to the creation of enlistment of the residents of the North West Province. 

  • To be a multi-disciplined organisation presenting multi-faceted art and artistic sport forms, programmes and services to the communities in all the regions of the North West Province.
